EXETER — Shannon Murdock was a special talent as a freshman. She's elevated herself to elite status as a sophomore.
Makes you wonder what Exeter High School's star distance runner has in store for outdoor track and field's version of the postseason.
Murdock enters today's Division I meet at Winnacunnet as the top seed in both the 1,600- and 3,200-meter runs. She admitted she's been blown away by this sophomore season, which has been stellar since cross country in the fall, and includes record-setting performances in both the spring and winter.
Perhaps her most impressive feat came at the indoor state meet at Dartmouth College. She won the state title in the 1,500-meters and now ranks ninth in the nation in the event at 4 minutes, 38.23 seconds; she has already reached the 1,500 U.S. qualifying trial for the prestigious World Youth Championships, which will be held over the summer
