Guilford Resident Overcomes Obstacles To Win NCAA Title

 

 

The fact that Janel Haggerty recently won the first NCAA Division III pentathlon national title in Keene State history is impressive.The path she took to get there makes the story that much more remarkable.

There is no track facility at Keene State so Haggerty, a senior from Guilford, has to be resourceful. She trains outside at a nearby high school track. Even in the winter. If there is snow, she and assistant coach Tom Pickering shovel off a few lanes. Haggerty runs on a treadmill if the weather is unbearable or the track is being used.
