NH: New England Round-up

NH athletes had an excellent day at The New England Championships held at Thorton Academy in Saco,ME on Saturday June 9th. Jacilyn Briggs of Keene and Hilary Holmes of Exeter had the best days for the Granite State. Briggs won the pole vault competition clearing a New England meet record and NH state record height of 12’9”. She had three good attempts at 13’0’; all just over four hours after the event had started. The Cornell bound Holmes medaled in all four events she competed in. She placed second in thelong and triple jumps, jumping 17’11.25” and 38’3” respectively. Holmes also took fourth place in boththe 100 and 300 hurdles with times of 14.41 and 45.38 seconds.

 
Betsy Garnick of Bishop Guertin placed second in the 100 hurdles running a time of 14.09 seconds,bettering her own personal best and NH state record. Isabella Stuopis of Souhegan took second place in
the shot put with a throw of 40’11” and Gabe Carter of Kearsarge leaped 21’9.5” in the long jump, goodfor second place.
 
Romario Bailey of Stevens had the best day for NH boys, taking third place in the 200 with a timeof 22.23 seconds, and fourth place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 39.83 seconds. Chris Bohi of Merrimack Valley added a third place for NH in the javelin throwing a state best 184’3”. Manchester Central’s Dylan Lafond led the Granite State distance runners with a fourth place run in the 1600 finishing in 4:21.76, fellow NH runner Jeremy Brassard of Coe-Brown took sixth place in the same event crossing the finish line in 4:22.67. The Souhegan boys and Bedford girls had the best relay finishes for NH team, both placing fourth in their events. Souhegan placed in the 4x800 with a time of 8:03.70; Bedford in the 4x400 with a time of 3:56.90. The Coe-Brown girls 4x800 team took home sixth place running a time of 9:32.51. The Pinkerton boys 4x400 closed out the relay medals for NH with their sixth place time of 3:23.89
 
The 800 meter run claimed several top ranked Granite Staters in the late stages of both the girls and boys races. Hannah Parker of Coe-Brown, the number two seed, tripped with less than 15 meters to go,falling from third to eighth before betting over the line. In the boys race Jonathan Vinnenberg of Bow, the number one seed, was in command of the boys race until a leg injury in the last 150 meters left him unable to finish the race.
 
Some excellent field event finishes for NH were turned in by seacoast rivals Kara Duffy of Dover and Miranda Gagnon of Somersworth in the javelin. Duffy took fourth place with a toss of 124’11” and just behind her in sixth place was Gagnon with a throw of 121’10”. Kevin Shea of Nashua South cleared 6’5”in the high jump and took home fourth place. Victoria Rozumek of Salem and Jenny Mara of Bedford both cleared 5’3” and were part of a three-way tie for fifth place.
 
Rounding out the medalist finishes for NH on the track was Eric Tahtamoni of Salem cruising to a fifth place finish in the 400 in a time of 49.32 seconds. Colton Ham of Merrimack Valley took his own personal record down to 9:30.23, and in the process took fifth place in the boys 3200. Alex Archambault of Coe-Brown preceded Ham in the girls 3200, crossing in 
11:14.41 which gave her sixth place.
