Indoor Track and Field Week #1 Highlights

The New Hampshire Indoor Track League signaled the start of major invitational action in New Hampshire and Vermont.  Several prominent athletes from last year picked up right where they left off, and it was an impressive first day at Dartmouth College in Hanover.

Highlights

  • Courtney Hawkins of Milford started the season on a good note with a 10:49.54 win in the 3,000m.  She was 17 seconds ahead of Hannah Kimball (Timberlane) and is currently US#8 in the event as of Saturday evening.  Her teammate Brianna Lippitt also scored a distance event win; clocking in at 5:24.50 in the 1550m.
  • Isabella Stuopis of Souhegan High School dropped a bomb on the field in the shot put.  The senior won the event by almost 10 feet, and is currently sitting at US#3 with a 40'8" mark.
  • Devin Motivala of Nashua North put a comfortable lead on Michael MacLean of Plymouth en route to winning the 1000m in 2:39.28.  Motivala's time is one of the fastest in New England this season and puts him at US#11.
  • The 600 Meter Dash came down to fractions as James Fitzhugh (St. Johnsbury) barely held off teammates Jacob Kittredge and Bert DeForest of Souhegan.  Fitzhugh would cross the line in 1:25.39, with Kitteredge in second (1:25.51) and DeForest in third (1:25.53).
  • Parker Lyttle of Milford cleared 6'4" to win the High Jump by two inches over Andrew Coates of Souhegan.  
  • Jenna Athanasopoulos (Monadnock) would edge Kelly Ludew (Lebanon) by .01 to win the 55 Meter Hurdles in 8.87.
  • Kevin Conchieri (Essex) and Gunnar Ericsson (Timberlane) would drag their section out fast en route to a 1-2 finish.  Conchieri got the win by .02 over Ericsson in 37.74.
  • The Hanover girls walked away with a 8.5 point win over Souhegan, while the Souhegan boys posted a decisive 29 point win over Nashua North.
