Maine Athletes Shine At Dartmouth Relays

Falmouth's Josh Bradford struggled to start his indoor season fouling out of his first two competitions. Bradford bound for the University of Maine next fall got back on track two weekends ago with a personal best 57-0 3/4. On Sunday he broke through with a national leading 61-2 1/4 to win the event by five plus feet, the mark moves Bradford from 11th in Maine state indoor history to 5th.

Morse senior William Carrolton threw a personal best 54-3 to finish third in the shot put. Carrolton is the current Class B state leader. Scarborough's Jacob Goff a had a personal best 52-10 1/2 to finish fifth.

Cheverus sophomore Frank Morang was a double winner in the jumps, as he leapt out to 21-7 1/2 to take the long jump, he jumped a personal best 44-2 to take the triple jump.

Mahamed Sharif of Westbrook defended his 800m crown as the senior led wire to wire winning in 1:57.70

Gorham junior Ryan Gendron was victorious in the high jump as he cleared 6-2 with fewer misses. Westbrook's Chuil Bayak also cleared 6-2, he was third overall based on misses.

Scarborough senior Jarett Flaker dominated the 300m race as he clocked 35.18, this mark the second time in his career he has won the event last doing it as a sophomore. Flaker's mark broke the Maine senior class record of 35.50 set by Jake Dixon of Cheverus. He combined with his brother Jayden, plus freshman Parker Killiard, and sophomore Zach Barry to anchor the Red Storm to victory in 4x400m as he split 49.3 on anchor for the 3:29.48 effort.

Speaking of Jayden Flaker, in the 55m hurdles he went from the 9th seed to start the day all the way to third with his personal best 7.69. The mark shattered the state sophomore best of 7.85 set back in 2004. Currently Flaker is the state leader by over a half second in the event.

The mile was a great race that saw Ben Greene of Falmouth run a personal best 4:23.78, and new state leader. Greene finished fourth with his effort just ahead of the Brunswick duo of Will Shaughnessy & Tyler Patterson. Shaughnessy clocked 4:24.08, and Patterson 4:24.55, both personal best times. Patterson finished third in the 1000 meters on Saturday running 2:34.77.

Dante Lingley of Westbrook ran a personal best 6.65 to finish third in the 55m dash final. The mark is the second fastest in the state this year.

Scarborough led Maine teams in scoring as the Red Storm tallied 28 points to finish third, while Westbrook put together a big day with 22 points good for a tie for 5th place. Cheverus behind Morang's 20 points finished 8th overall.



The Cheverus sprint duo of Emma Gallant, and Victoria Bossong claimed a pair of victories on Sunday. Bossong started things off with her first race of her junior season by winning the 400m title in 57.16, her margin of victory was over three seconds. The mark set a new state junior class record in the event and is a new state leading effort. Gallant dominated the 300m as the senior crossed the line in 41.27 to win the event by over a second.

Gorham's Kate Tugman had a great two day meet as the Florida State bound senior, won the 1000m in 3:03.98 on Saturday, then returned with her teammates Sydney Connolly, Nevaeh Moore, & Alyvia Caruso in the sprint medley to set a new Maine all-time best in the event with their runner-up 4:20.08 finish. The mark improved Waterville's 4:20.18 effort from 2012. Tugman returned to action in the mile on Sunday, and ran a very smart tactical race that saw her finish second in a personal best 5:08.80.

Windham's Hannah Langstaff had an outstanding day as the senior won the 800m 2:25.10 as she came from behind to win section 2. The mark was a personal best by eight seconds. Making the effort even more impressive was that earlier in the meet she finished third in the 400m in a personal best 1:01.38.

Scarborough's Emily Labbe improved on her runner-up finish from a year ago as the Umaine bound senior ran a seasonal best and state leading 8.61 to win the event. Cape's Darcy Cochran was the runner-up as she ran a seasonal best and class b leading 8.74. Gorham Alyvia Caruso nabbed a sixth place with a 9.24 effort.

Windham's Katelyn Smith was the runner-up in the triple jump as the junior jumped a state leading and personal best 36-8.

Falmouth's Karley Piers dropped a personal best 11:17.19 to finish third in the two mile.

In the 300m Kaeden Green of Brunswick scored sixth place in 43.29 and then added a third in the triple jump with a 34-6 effort, her teammate Maddie Wayne had a strong sixth place in the 800m running 2:27.26. Gorham Syndey Connolly finished sixth in the 55m dash in 7.64.

On Saturday, Connolly teamed with Nevaeh Moore, Emma Green, & Maddie Michuad to finish fourth in the 4x200m relay with a state leading 1:51.35.

In the team scoring Gorham was the top Maine team as the Rams tallied 33 points to finish fourth overall. Windham placed fifth with 24 points while Cheverus was seventh with 20 points.
