FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. ? On Thursday, Dartmouth senior
Emily Daly (Hopkinton, Mass.) participated in the 2009 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville, Ark., tossing the hammer 54.28 meters (178 feet and 1 inch) to place 10th in her preliminary flight and 23rd overall. Unfortunately for Daly, only the top 12 in the toss qualified for the finals.
“Although she did not make the finals, Emily had a tremendous year as evidenced by being here at the championships,” retiring field coach
Carl Wallin stated from the meet.
Daly had earned a spot at the championships by placing seventh at the NCAA Regionals held in Greensboro, N.C., two weeks ago. She owns the school record in the event with a toss of 59.34 meters (194 feet 8 inches) earlier this year at the Sam Howell Invitational at Princeton. Daly was one of just five females from the Ivy League participating in the championships.
The top distance of the preliminaries belonged to Akron senior Stevi Large at 65.77 meters (215 feet 9 inches), nearly three full meters longer than any other toss.
