Foot Locker Regionals By The Numbers

Midwest

  • The muddy conditions in Kenosha made for an abnormally slow race. Foot Locker Midwest was the slowest 5K of the season for 83-percent of the runners in the seeded race (minimum two 5Ks this season, 342 of 410).
  • Two of the most dominant programs in Foot Locker history continued their storied tradition on Saturday. Rockford (MI) will have a runner, Ericka Vanderlende, compete at Foot Locker Nationals for the 15th time, tying Saratoga Springs (NY) and Lake Braddock (VA) for the most all-time. Ethan Kern became the 12th runner from York (IL) to qualify for nationals, giving York the most qualifiers in history. Ethan finished higher in this race than he did in his state meet, where he finished ninth.
  • MileSplit 50 No. 3 ranked Katelynne Hart was defeated by Emily Covert and Taylor Ewert. Hart, arguably one of the favorites, would need to break a 10-year streak as the past 10 Foot Locker female champs won their regional meet. The last non-regional winner to claim the title at Foot Locker Nationals came in 2007 when Ashley Brasovan finished first after a fourth-place finish at the South Region meet.
  • Taylor Ewert became only the second female from Ohio to qualify for nationals in the last 10 years. On the boys side, Wisconsin qualified multiple boys for the first time since 1982, while Michigan tied its record from 1983 for most boys qualifying for nationals with four.
  • Clarkston's Brendan Favazza made a huge jump, finishing 130rd at Foot Locker Midwest last year before finishing ninth in 2018 to punch his ticket to San Diego.
  • The top eight females all won their state meet.
  • Cole Hocker remains undefeated this season, one of seven boys in the nation (minimum five races). Hocker took down two previously undefeated runners in Drew Bosley and Nick Foster. The seven undefeated boys left are Hocker, Cole Sprout, Tim Sindt, Grant Gardner, Ben Perrin, Ryan Oosting, and Evan Holland.
