Athletes To Watch: Cebastian Gentil, E. Greenwich

For the next few weeks, MileSplit RI will feature some of our top individuals this outdoor track & field season in our Athletes To Watch series. Who are the athletes that should make an impact this spring? We'll do our best to let you know.

Athletes to Watch: Cebastian Gentil, East Greenwich

The Avenger senior is coming off a splendid season on the indoor surface where he captured his second straight 600-meter title and also clocked a state record of 1:19.97 for his specialty at the New Balance Games. Gentill was a runner-up to La Salle's DJ Principe in the 800m at the State Meet last year where he finished with a outdoor PR of 1:55.55. Gentil improved on that clocking this indoor season where he was timed in 1:55.31, an effort that earned him a second-place finish in the Emerging Elite 800m at the New Balance Nationals. Gentil should be considered the favorite for the two-lapper at this year's State Meet. He also has potential to make some noise in the 400m where he's on the verge of breaking 50 seconds. He blazed to a time of 50.40 to win the class meet last spring and ran a best of 50-seconds flat the Schomp Invitational.
