Maine Athletes Entered To Compete At New Balance Indoor Nationals


Some of the state's best track & field athletes will compete in the New Balance Indoor Track & Field Nationals starting on Friday in New York City at the Armory

9:50amEE 60mTrials

The two Class A state champions will compete in the Emerging Elite 60 on Friday morning. Molly Murnane (Scarborough) is fresh off her 6th place effort at the New England Championship, while Jarett Flaker (Scarborough) looks to bounce back after a 7th place effort at New England's. The state all-time best is 7.04 for the boys, which could be within reach.


11:55amEE 400mFINAL (sections)

The Class A champion Jarett Flaker will compete in the 400m looking to improve on his 49.87 state lead. The state all-time best of 49.59 set by Ben Sinclair back in 2009 is well within reach.


12:00pmB - EE Long JumpFINAL

Cayden Spencer-Thompson of Mattanawcook Academy will compete in the EE long jump. Spencer-Thompson who hasn't competed in the event since outdoors where he jumped 23-2 1/2. The state record is 23'0 1/2 set back in 2001 by Brett McIntyre of Brunswick.


2:00pmB - EE High JumpFINAL

Class A state champion Anthony Clavette of Scarborough will compete in the EE high jump along with Brunswick's Sammy Cenescar of Brunswick who has the best jump in the state this winter at 6-6.


3:00pmG - EE Triple JumpFINAL

Class A state champion Nyagoa Bayak of Westbrook will compete in the EE triple jump, she has a best effort of 37-10.5


3:55pmEE 4x800mFINAL

The Class A champions and best team in Maine the Gorham Rams will compete in the Emerging Elite 4x800. They are fresh off a new school record and state leading 9:40.45 at the New England Championship where they placed 10th. The team is comprised of Kate Tugman, Iris Kitchen, Meadow Fortier, & Anna Slager.


6:00pmB - EE Weight ThrowFINAL

Clinton Nicolai of Portland High School will compete in the EE Weight Throw. Nicolai set a new Maine all-time best at Yale earlier this winter with his throw of 58'5. He'll be looking to add to his record on Friday night.



6:00pmG - High JumpFINAL

US #5 Nyagoa Bayak will compete in the Championship High Jump on Friday night. Bayak is coming off her New England's victory where she cleared a personal best 5'10" to tie the meet record, and break the tie for the Maine all-time best. Bayak took some good attempts at 5'11 at NE's and has a shot a good shot at earning All-American honors, and perhaps a national title.


6:55pmEE 800mFINAL

Class A Mile & 800m champion Juliana Selser of South Portland will compete in the Emerging Elite 800m. Selser most recently finished just off the podium at the New England Championship with her 7th place effort in the 1k, her time was 2:58.57. She has a best time of 2:17.04 on the season for 800m with her personal best indoor being 2:14.30


8:20pmEE 4x400mFINAL

Cheverus will compete in the 4x400m relay in the Emerging Elite section. The Stags would clocked the second best time in state history of 4:09.76 at the Dartmouth Relays will look to take down the state all-time best of 4:08.68 set back in 1995 by Scarborough. With two sub 60 legs in Emma Gallant, & Victoria Bossong they have a good chance.

 Jacob Martin of York will compete in the Championship Pentathlon. Martin who played basketball this winter will compete for the first time this winter. During the summer he recorded a 5,942 in the decathlon.



12:00noonB - Pole VaultFINAL Unseeded

Thornton Academy junior Travis Snyder, the Class A state champion will compete in the championship pole vault. He has a best of 16-1 on the season, which ranks him US#15 entering the meet.


4:10pmG - Freshman 400mFINAL

Class A state runner-up Victoria Bossong of Cheverus will compete in the freshman 400m. Bossong ran 58.51 at the state meet, and most recently clocked 41.36 for 300m at the New England Championship to place 10th. She'll be looking to break the Maine freshman all-time best of 58.22


5:00pmB - Shot PutFINAL

New England shot put champion Jason Montano of Thornton Academy will compete in the Championship shot put. Montano who has a best of 58-5 1/2 on the year is coming off a win at the New England Championship where he threw 55-10. He ranks US #27 entering the meet.


5:55pmB - 200mTrials

Scarborough sophomore Jarett Flaker the Maine all-time leader in the 200m at 22.32 will look to become the first Maine athlete under 22 seconds indoors as he competes in the Championship 200m.

9:00amG/B - Freshman MileFINALS
Falmouth freshman Ben Greene will compete in the freshman mile on Sunday morning. Greene who placed 7th at the Class A state meet running a personal best 4:40.32 will be looking to dip under the 4:40 barrier for the first time.



10:00amB - Triple JumpFINAL

Cayden Spencer-Thompson of Mattanawcook Academy will compete in the Championship triple jump. Spencer-Thompson shattered the Maine all-time best this winter two times, his record currently stands at 48'9". That mark ranks US #9 entering the meet.


10:40amFreshman 60m DashG/B Trials

Victoria Bossong of Cheverus will compete in the freshman 60m dash on Sunday. Bossong finished third in the Class A 55m dash this season, and has a best time of
