The high jump could be a hotly-contested event. Somerville's Phillips Magre owns a 6-7 to his credit this season, which he did to capture the Northeast Conference Championships on Feb. 11. Medfield's John McNeil is right behind at 6-6.5, and then there's Milton's Smith Charles with a 6-6 best. Julian Silva of Boston College High and Mannietenode Peri-Okonny of Wachusett have cleared 6-5 this season. It's not often that you have two athletes over 23 feet in the long jump, but we do this year with Charles and Yang in the field. Charles has gone over the 23-foot barrier three times this season, including a best of 23-6.25 at the Greater Boston Track Club Invitational. He has indicated often that he has his sights set on 24 feet and this could be the meet he does it with Yang his main competitor. The Acton-Boxborough standout leaped 23-1.25 at the Coaches Invitational last month and nearly cracked 23 feet at the Division 1 meet where he won with a distance of 22-11.75. Fourteen athletes entered in this event have exceeded 21 feet, including Brockton's Jaylynn Cundiff (22-7.25). Innovation Academy's Aiden Felty is the favorite to take the shot put title. He has been consistently over 55 feet, achieving his all-time best of 57-4.75 at the Boston Holiday Classic on Dec. 27. Felty captured the recent Division 5 state title with a 56-4 effort and won the Dartmouth Relays with a toss of 54-10.5.  Boston College High's Tom Aicardi could be Felty's No. 1 contender. He exceeded 56 feet at the Tri-County League Championships on Feb. 8 and won the Division 1 meet on Friday with a distance of 54-8.5. Catholic Memorial's Dylan Murand (55-0), Athol's Kris Selenis (54-10.25) and Central Catholic's Kalvin Guillermo (54-5) should also be contending for those top spots.
