Watch Sammy Cenescar Clear 6-6 in the High Jump
Sophomore Sammy Cenescar of Brunswick equalled the Maine all-time for a sophomore at a KVAC meet at Bowdoin College on Saturday. Cenescar who held the state lead at 6-4 entering the meet cleared his new personal best with room to spare. His mark tied Kevin Sawyer's effort from 1981, and moved Cenescar up into a tie for 6ht best performer in state history.
A year ago as a freshman Cenescar jumped 5-10 to finish second at the Class A State Championship indoors, while he finished 3rd outdoors jumping a best of 6-0.
He'll be chasing the KVAC record of 6-9 1/4, that mark is also held by Sawyer, who competed at Lawrence, and is the current Greely High School jump coach.
