Will Geoghegan Takes Top Spot at Men's Dartmouth Invitational

HANOVER, N.H. – Senior Will Geoghegan continued the trend of Big Green men's cross country dominance at the Dartmouth Invitational Saturday morning hosted by the Hanover Country Club.

Geoghegan finished first at the meet for the second straight year and gave the Big Green their seventh-straight individual collegiate winner dating back to 2007. The senior from Brunswick, Maine, crossed the line in 23:57.62, nearly two seconds ahead of Syracuse's MJ Erb in second place, earning Dartmouth the one point.

Former NCAA Cross Country and Outdoor 10,000m Champion Sam Chelanga ran unattached and was first overall in a field of 67 competitors. However, the former Liberty student-athlete and his time do not factor into the meet's final results.

Geohegan and the entire field ran an incredibly fast race as the Dartmouth senior's time was 53 seconds faster than his winning mark of last season (24:50.10) on the same 8K course.

Syracuse narrowly edged the Big Green in the team standings, taking the top spot with 24 points, while the hosts were second with 34. Brown claimed third with 90 points with Keene State (108) and Bentley (151) rounding out the five-team field.

Senior John Bleday also made an impression on the final scoresheet for Dartmouth, crossing in 24:08.83, good for fifth-place overall and four points. He was followed shortly thereafter by junior Dylan O'Sullivan in eighth with a time of 24:21.61.

Sophomores Tim Gorman (24:32.83) and Brian Masterson (24:40.71) rounded out the scoring for the Green as they were 11th and 13th, respectively.

Overall, Dartmouth finished with 10 runners in the top-20, the most of any of the five teams competing Saturday morning. Steve Mangan (14th, 24:46.41), Henry Sterling (15th, 24:46.74), Silas Talbot (16th, 24:55. 62), Curtis King (17th, 24:56.90) and Matt Herzig (18th, 25:00.18) didn't factor into the scoring, but helped the Big Green dominate the top portion of the race on first glance of the final results.

Dartmouth will have a three-week break as it will not run again until stepping up to the starting line of the Paul Short Invitational in Bethlehem, Pa., on the morning of Saturday, Oct. 5.
